WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?

"Reflexology works on the whole person, with the aim of inducing a state of balance and harmony"

Treatment Time*:  Allow 1 hr
Treatment Cost:  £32.00

* Please note that treatment times stated are approximate and intended as a guide only, the time allocated may include initial consultation and/or review of the treatment.

Reflexology is an extremely effective form of therapeutic foot massage, using a specific pressure technique that works on reflex points on the feet.  It is based on the premise that reflex areas on the feet correspond with all body parts.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

A Reflexology treatment should be a relaxing experience, as it helps to stimulate the bodies own healing mechanism.  It is beneficial for stress, anxiety and other stress-related conditions like insomnia and migraine; asthma; sinusitis; eczema; back pain and general pain relief, PMS and other menstrual problems, infertility and constipation.

Crystalline deposits of waste products, usually calcium and uric acid, can accumulate around nerve endings on the foot and feel 'crunchy', a swelling or sensation of 'squidginess' indicates a possible problem in the related zone. Working on a point helps crush the crystals and stimulate circulation so that the lymph system can more easily eliminate them.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TREATMENT?

Treatment lasts about 45 to 50 minutes, including initial consultation where you will be asked questions about past and present health and lifestyle before you take off all footwear and make yourself comfortable on a reclining chair or a treatment couch with your feet raised.

The treatment  begins with an examination of  the general appearance of your feet, noting their shape and condition, then I use cleansing wipes for hygiene purposes and a light massage oil, such as Sweet Almond Oil or Grapeseed Oil.  A firm pressure is applied to the reflex points in a combination of massage and pressure, noting areas of pain or tenderness that may call for extra attention.

A number of regular treatments may be required to achieve and maintain health and wellbeing, dependant on individual circumstances.   Most people find reflexology very relaxing, but occasionally individuals may find that symptoms can worsen before improving, this is rare and is a positive sign as it indicates that the body's natural healing processes are removing 'toxins' from the system.

It is important to remember to drink plenty of water for up to 48 hours after a treatment to help flush these toxins out of the system.
